By using the Chief Joe Mathias Centre website and facilities, you agree to the following terms:

Facility Use

All facility users must follow the posted rules and regulations. The Centre reserves the right to refuse service to anyone who violates these rules or engages in disrespectful behaviour toward staff or other community members.

Registration

Program registrations are subject to availability. The Centre reserves the right to cancel programs with insufficient enrollment, in which case registered participants will be notified and refunded.

Liability

Participants engage in physical activity at their own risk. The Chief Joe Mathias Centre and the Squamish Nation are not liable for injury, loss, or damage arising from facility use or program participation.

Cultural Respect

The Chief Joe Mathias Centre operates on the traditional and unceded territory of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw. All visitors and participants are expected to approach the space with cultural respect and sensitivity.

Accessibility Statement

The Chief Joe Mathias Centre is committed to ensuring digital and physical accessibility for people with disabilities. Our facility and website aim to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards.

Physical Accessibility

Facility Policies

The following policies apply to all users of the Chief Joe Mathias Centre facilities:

General Rules

  • Appropriate athletic footwear is required in the gymnasium and weight room.
  • No food or beverages in the gymnasium (water bottles permitted).
  • Equipment must be returned after use.
  • Respectful behaviour toward all staff and participants is required at all times.

Children & Youth

  • Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult during drop-in sessions.
  • Youth programs may have specific age requirements — check program descriptions.

Weight Room

  • Users must be 16 years of age or older unless participating in a supervised youth program.
  • Proper lifting technique and safety practices are expected.
  • No aggressive or unsafe behaviour will be tolerated.

Cultural Considerations

  • The facility may be closed for community cultural events, ceremonies, or memorials with limited notice.
  • We ask all visitors to approach our space with cultural awareness and respect for Squamish Nation traditions.
